Bio

Cantus Portus is a six-voice chant ensemble based in Ravenna. Lorenzo Valli leads Pietro Bellandi, Samuele Costa, Matteo Rinaldi, Davide Morelli and Andrea Ferri through Latin, Gregorian-style monophonic repertoire. A single melodic line, flexible text-led phrasing and natural reverberation define the sound; drums, chordal pop harmonies and synthesizer beds are excluded. Stone, parchment and muted gold support restrained ensemble imagery. The performers are presented as singers, with no invented monastic status. Text sources, pronunciation and rights are checked for each planned recording.
