Bio

Amaan Mehr Qawwal is a Lahore-based seven-person qawwali ensemble led by Amaan Sarmad. Two harmoniums, responding singers, handclaps, tabla and dholak support a lead that grows through repetition and exchange. Urdu and Punjabi repertoire is planned song by song, with clear text and an audible ensemble rather than a solo voice pasted over an electronic bed. The visual world stays close to the shared performance: breath, hands, harmonium bellows and the moment a response returns with greater intensity. Any poetic text is selected and checked before recording.
